Our Century-Long Legacy
At McDowell’s Pharmacies, our commitment to caring for our communities runs deep, over 120 years deep, to be exact. With three independently owned and operated pharmacies across eastern North Carolina, we are proud to carry on a legacy of personalized, patient-centered care that puts your health first.
Our story begins in Scotland Neck, where McDowell’s Pharmacy has served as a trusted healthcare partner for generations. Locally owned and operated by the McDowell family for more than a century, McDowell's Pharmacy has been a cornerstone of the community, offering personalized service and familiar faces behind the counter.
Rocky Mount Medical Park Pharmacy has been a vital part of the community since 1991. In 2019, the pharmacy was acquired by Thomas McDowell, who brought new energy and a renewed focus on personalized care, while maintaining the same trusted service patients had come to rely on.
Most recently, in 2025, Thomas acquired Todd's Pharmacy of Gates County and rebranded it McDowell's Pharmacy of Gates County. Under the new name and ownership, the pharmacy continues to provide the same familiar service with an expanded commitment to personalized healthcare and community wellness.

Meet the Owner
Thomas McDowell is a fourth-generation independent pharmacy owner, born and raised in eastern North Carolina. A proud graduate of the University of North Carolina, Thomas has a deep-rooted passion for community pharmacy and a heart for service.
He is dedicated to helping patients live healthier, happier lives through personalized care, including disease state management, medication synchronization, adherence packaging, immunizations, and individualized medication counseling. Thomas is a strong advocate for the vital role pharmacists play in lowering healthcare costs and improving patient outcomes through high-quality, accessible care.
Thomas is the owner of McDowell’s Pharmacy of Scotland Neck, Rocky Mount Medical Park Pharmacy, McDowell’s Pharmacy of Gates County, and Happier at Home Eastern NC.
Outside of work, Thomas enjoys spending time with his family, attending church, cheering on the Tar Heels at UNC games, and fishing.
